All of these, including witchcraft are often tossed out as being the same thing when they are not. None of them began as being used to hurt anyone, but ignorant people then said it was responsible for every bad thing that happened.
What she talked about was called dark/black magic then. She scared the crap out of magistrates who were terrified of trying to hang her because of her fanciful, exaggerated tales. She was the one who began accusing innocent others of practicing magic when all they ever did was use herbs for health and healing. Then people began hunting down more and more accused witches.
If they denied it, they were hanged. Dying proved their innocence or some such rubbish. Admitting you were a witch kept you alive as they feared trying to kill you and what you would do to them. Absolutely idiotic thinking, but there it was.
I read that she was jailed for over a year because Parrish refused to pay her jail fine.
Someone bought her and she disappeared from history.
You're right that no one knows if she was of African descent, but modern scholars believe she wasn't, although she had significantly darker skin than those who settled in New England.
From wiki:
Historical records show Tituba was an enslaved Indigenous woman (likely of South American or Caribbean Arawak descent), though later popular culture and folklore frequently mischaracterized her as an African or voodoo-practicing "black witch".
In a world where you can be anything, choose to be kind.![]()
