The Speaker does not chair or even sit on any of the house committees aside of the Sterring Committee responsible for assigning g committees and leadership roles. He is just fine right there because he still has Pelosi guiding and teaching him HOW to be the house leader.*** (details for Speaker at the end of my post)
The committees are who go after specific wrongdoing and send subpoenas. Schumer decides what goes forward on the floor. He's always showed a willingness to go with the committees' decisions provided they weren't huge distractions from necessary work or liable to blow up on them.
The majority of the investigations will originate in the house committees he has no control over. Pelosi remains there to assist Jeffries in his planning. She has proven to be THE single best speaker in decades, so her guidance is paramount. Her choices were always pragmatic with carefully counted votes to ensure whatever path they took would succeed.
We, the people, are not privy to the info and knowledge legislators have or why some choices are made, so can't really KNOW if choices made ate the right ones. However, careful observation can show the wisdom in decisions made.
The DEMs carefully evaluate how far their moves will get the. Before proceeding. This MAGA era has proved very difficult because trump isn't your typical POTUS. He has broken every rule "in the playbook", forcing leaders to change strategy.
Normally, a politician reacts to ecposure and investigations with predictable moves. trump broke that mold with his outrageous lies and defiant, currupt behaviors. He encourages law-breaking and ignoring congressional oversight, promising and delivering pardons to those doing his wet-work. So, it was pragmatic and practical for DEMs to bide their time while in the minority.
While IN the majority from 2018 to 2022, the pursued him with vigorous investigations and impeachments. Still, they didnt have ENOUGH power to convict him in the senate.
While out of power,Schumer and Jeffries both nixed certain moves against trump & the GOP for specific, pragmatic reasons, same as Pelosi & Harry Reed did when faced with not ENOUGH votes.
The DEMs were very much aware that too many many investigations, even though more than warranted, were only making Americans see them as being vindictive and partisan, thus beginning to lose credibility.
However, NOW is the time to go forward with slamming MAGA with everything they deserve!
After this blue tsunami, Ozymandius-type election, they have far more support in congress to take it all apart. Watch for carefully crafted investigations designed to gather credibility for their investigations and support in taking MAGA down for good.
THAT is actually leadership. The knowledge and EXPERIENCE in knowing when to call and when to fold. Schumer has that even if he's a putz and has hesitated a bunch. Can you really blame him in this MAGA era where lies became truth and players were willing to lie under oath or refuse to show up? It takes anyone time to learn new tricks when dealing with a brand new pathogen (MAGA), just like with Covid 19.
NOW we have the vaccine!
*** (from Wiki) The Speaker of the House traditionally does not serve on or chair regular standing committees of the House, though there is no formal constitutional or rules-based prohibition against it.
Key details regarding the Speaker's committee roles include:
• Standing Committees: Historically, Speakers refrain from sitting on any regular standing committees to remain focused on presiding over the entire chamber and acting as a neutral or party leader.
• Party Committee Leadership: When in the majority, the Speaker chairs the majority party's committee assignment panel (such as the steering committee), which dictates which party members get assigned to standing committee slots.
• Ex Officio and Special Roles: The Speaker typically serves as an ex officio member of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
• Appointive Powers: Rather than serving as a standard member or chair, the Speaker holds significant power to appoint members to select committees, conference committees, and nominate members and chairs for the Rules Committee and House Administration Committee.
In a world where you can be anything, choose to be kind.![]()
