We have jumped through the hoops, run the numbers, packed, donated, tossed, and now we are in the final stage.
My wife is waiting on the approval of her study permit for Canada. Meanwhile, we are selling our house. When the permit comes, we are preapproved to buy in Canada. However, we might end up in an odd situation where we get the permit, our house sells, but we have not had time to close on a house in Canada.
That would be awkward, but doable.
If we do not hear about the study permit in time or are not able to sell our house in time, that would be more problematic. We likely could not complete our move.
Everything is crazy here as we rush toward the finish line.

jk Just kidding. Besides you, I know a few others in pursuit of that. It's a brain drain for certain. Poppet's gone. Now you. I'd go if I was younger. I will stay and fight until they bring me my meds with the sleeves that tie in the back. You can look away from a painting, but you can't listen away from a symphony
I Long Thought That I Would Fight Every Step Of The Way...
I fought as long as I could. If my family and I are stuck, and we can't move to Canada, I don't know what we will do, but for the short term, we will stay exactly where we are. It isn't the best, but it's where our friends and family are centered.
Once the kids are old enough, we will encourage them to try to make their way to Canada, although I fully expect that if we continue our downhill slide, it will be harder for them than it would be for them to do it now.
I don't think that my wife and I will get another chance. We agreed with our youngest that if we don't get them to Canada to start high school, we will let them finish high school where they start it. My wife and I will be pushing 60 when our youngest graduates.
It is hard for older folks to get approved for permanent residency. Heck, we could make it, spend the next 4 years in Canada, and then have to come back because Canada decides we can't stay.
It will be worth it if our kids get to stay. We'll visit them.
You can assure fellow Canadians the felon does not represent anything close to a majority in America.
American private education is inferior. Look at the felon. At a tot he was so out of control, facing expulsion, he was sent to a military boarding school only because his parents had adequate money. They couldn't and didn't want to deal with him. They made him somebody else's problem. He was behaviorally and academically flunking out of first grade in the NYC public school system. Back then they didn't have the SPED programs like he's gutting now. You can look away from a painting, but you can't listen away from a symphony
Best wishes, sir!

I think you're doing the right thing; I'm not sure this country can be saved.-greenman
