After the Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel, antisemitism spiked in central Ohio. Jewish Columbus reported threats and harassment against Jewish people to police, but WOSU found the organization also reported protest activity that was critical of Israel.
Some believe Jewish Columbus’ actions blurred the lines between hate speech and protected speech by reporting both to police. The group defended its actions to WOSU at first, saying it didn't believe the protests as a whole were antisemitic. Now, Jewish Columbus says it is reporting both antisemitic attacks on Jewish people and events it believes are against Zionism.
Hamas killed 1,200 Israelis when it invaded Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. Israel retaliated, invading the Gaza Strip. In the nearly two years since, it is estimated that more than 60,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed.
Here in Columbus and around the U.S., people took to the streets to protest after Israel’s counterattack began, alleging Israel was committing genocide.

It harkens back to a day when "the only good injun is a dead one" and post 9/11 when "All Muslims are terrorists" and the current belief that "illegal immigrants are all criminals", when illegal entry is a civil offense, NOT a criminal one.
Americans, like so many other countries and cultures, believe that any group who has some amongst them those who've committed atrocities or crimes means that ALL OF THEM are the same who embrace the evil committed.

In Palestine, Gaza, Ukraine, Myanmar, Rwanda, Bosnia, El Salvador... innocent people are attacked, arrested, detained, wrongly imprisoned, hurt and murdered allegedly because of some threat they pose to existing leadership and the generally wealthy class who somehow profits and enriches themselves from leadership and representative policy.
Even the United States is not immune. Every day ICE flexes its federally mandated power to seize and disappear "enemies" with no due process. These enemies are immigrants and citizens whom somebody identified and labeled a threat. This is MAGA policy, and if it proved anything to the world, America has clay feet and we might be standing in a flood.
The giant of our country is lurching and listing in economic unheaval, social upheaval, and political warfare that exposed an unimagined vulnerability to the world. Our allies distanced themselves, fearing we may fall. They are preparing to live in a world where American strength no longer means anything.
