For Donald Trump, the election process is only fair and valid if and when he wins. If he loses, it was rigged.
If it wasn't rigged two years ago when he ran, why does he need to change the process now? Of course we know the answer to that... but if his attempts to muddy the waters and change the process now were successful, it would only add fuel to the charges of a rigged election, no matter who wins. That way, he can call foul either way if he loses the candidates or support he is endorsing.
He knows how unpopular he is. He also knows that many of his previous supporters will likely vote against anyone he endorses in the upcoming midterm elections. That's why he is so desperate. And that's why he needs to have it both ways. Damned if you do and damned if you don't, whether you change the election registration/verification system or not.
I have no doubt he will try to shut it all down and call Marshall law if he doesn't get the support or votes he wants in this election, or if he even SUSPECTS he won't get the votes he wants or needs to keep his power and crimes unchecked. He may well try to shut it down BEFORE the elections even take place... SaveAct or no SaveAct.
