I'm very aware that I haven't been around much. Truth be told I'm just so caught up in the news churn that I've focused my attention on creating and responding to posts on Facebook that it takes up all my time. I blame my obsessive nature for that.
I've also been dedicating time to my substack page, InMyHumbleOpinion. Essentially, it's a re-posting of what I post on Facebook. I've discovered that most of my posts don't rise to the level of sheer volume one finds on Substack. In my experience most of those posts are very lengthy. Too lengthy in fact. And when I ran into them on Facebook I started scrolling past them. I simply don't have to time to read these huge tomes and digest to the point where I can form a qualified opinion. And no one else does either.
At first I was intimidated. Then I found that more people responded to the short but sweet posts. Because of that I felt encouraged to restart my Substack efforts.
What I'm seeing, generally speaking, is this. After one year of Trump our nation has taken a tack that is definitely aimed at keeping him, his oligarch bros, and the Heritage Foundation in power indefinitely. The oh-so-loyal MAGA faithful are fully on board despite the fact that they too will pay the huge price the rest of us will. They simply won't be swayed. No evidence will convince them he's not doing his gosh-darned-best for the nation. Nor is there any red line for them. Witness pedophilia and how dismissive they are.
The beginning of his second year has seen an expansion of his desires and influence. So he's looking internationally. His brand newly minted Donroe Doctrine where Might Makes Right is the founding ideology. And he's not being bashful about employing it. He successfully used it in Venezuela, has used it to cow both Columbia and Mexico, and is now brutally using it to choke off Cuba. His crowning achievement now, however, is his military adventure against Iran in alliance with Israel. But here he has hit a wall.
Iran is a huge nut to crack. It's a very big country, is every bit as modern as the US, is technologically advanced and is very strategically situated as he's finding out. He needs allies. But in the face of insults and bullying the message from those in the EU and NATO is "tuff! You did this without consulting us. So this is your mess. You made it, you get out of it." He's casting about looking for an off ramp. And if he finds one and takes it, he will leave behind a huge disaster for others to deal with. This is his MO, inmyhumbleopinion.

When he finds that off ramp, at least he will have a good excuse for raising the price of oil for his oligarch friends, and he can blame it all on NATO countries for not supporting him!
