I have heard of it, but never knew much about it. ADMIN the yearly Star Wars conventions. There are Covil War & Revolutionary War conventions and week-long reenactment of battles. People get together as fairies, vampires, werewolves, kings & queens, and so on. My youngest daughter flew to Japan with 2 friends last year to go to the Star Wars convention that lasted 2 weeks. I don't see any harm in fantasy-land conventions or gatherings. However, when violence breaks out and people take things to such extremes that others are harmed, that's WAY too far. Insular communities include dangerous cults like Jim Jones' cult. Any group that someone gets SO LOST IN is potentially a serious problem to individuals and especially outsiders. What is needed is enough mental health providers to help people who are unhappy in their lives so they become wrapped up in something that isn't even real and begin to see outsiders as enemies.

Valued Poster but if you replaced "Furry" with "Maga cult member", it would make more sense. Where do you find this stuff? And why are you so consumed with "wokeness" in the face of what is happening in the world right now? Do you not ever watch, read, understand or care about news that matters?

Valued Poster I just figured is was mostly confined to weird teenagers and maybe troubled adults that never grew up. I never figured it was as extensive as it apparently is. Those stories often struck me as just some bizarre story on a web page put there to fill space or just to attract some attention. Google "furry news articles" then click on NEWS at the top menu selection line. You'll get over 12,000 hits. Primarily about the Furry community from fairly well-known news sources. Although, with word furry in the search you'll get a smattering of domestic pet stories. I read all sorts of stuff. Occasionally, as most of us internet types well know, you can get off into various rabbit holes on any site. I stumbled onto the Furry article by checking out this article: https://www.realityslaststand.com/p/why-critiquing-crazy-academic-papers We definitely live in some strange times, and like it or not, the internet facilitates a lot of the strangeness that permeates today's environment. Strange or weird people used to be more confined. Either to themselves or very small local groups. The internet has made it possible for all sorts of people to meet, mingle, and online share their proclivities with the rest of the world.
