The Supreme Court gave the Trump administration the green light to begin mass deportations of people who have been living and working legally in the United States for years, some even decades. By a 6-to-3 vote along ideological lines, the court's conservative majority ruled that the President has virtually unrestrained power to end the Temporary Protected Status program, known as TPS.
Congress enacted the TPS law in 1990 to allow fully vetted and eligible migrants to live and work legally in the U.S. if they cannot return safely to their home countries because of natural disasters, armed conflicts, and other extraordinary conditions. The Department of Homeland Security designates which foreign countries qualify for TPS.
Naziism is on the loose in the land.. SAY ‘NO’ TO WAR! RESIST!
This sort of thing is beginning in Europe now, too.
It's focused on immigrants of different origin than in the Americas (African Muslims and Pakistanis, mostly), and is still more talk than actual legislation and action, for the most part...but the talk itself is a LOT harsher than it tends to be in the US. Several European nations have declared a "zero illegal migrants" policy. In some, there are factions advocating 100% deportation of all migrants, legal and otherwise, within certain groups (almost exclusively Muslims). Some of the rhetoric is extreme (and can land a person in jail, especially in the UK and France). A common statement: "deportation is the moderate solution."
Very liberal Denmark has legislation (that will likely pass) calling for a ban on any amplified version of the Muslim call to prayer. Poland, which doesn't accept asylum-seekers or most other such distressed migrants at all, has violently prevented border incursions. Following a horrific and very public knife attack in Belfast, dwellings housing migrants have been torched in Ireland. Rupert Lowe's "Rape Gang Report" has roiled the waters in the UK (a very disturbing read that despite methodological errors that extrapolate a total number of incidents w/o solid support, demonstrates a very real and serious problem that's been ongoing for many years). Things could get very, very ugly very fast.
I didn't know anything about Lowe; he doesn't seem down with Farage, which is good since the latter is a buffoon.
But if Lowe's criticisms are real, they're horrific. I'm sorry for Britain and the state of things there, which seem very bad.
The disparity between various factions in Britain is remarkable - the resentment of the murder of Gazans and Lebanese combined with the obsession over 'anti-Semitism' is just one thing - and their unwillingness to address things explicitly but rather to demand politically correct speech instead, makes it a country I'd have a hard time living in.
Immigration is a huge issue that should be worked out intelligently; but in a world increasingly prone to Fascistic sentiment, how can it be? SAY ‘NO’ TO WAR! RESIST!
