ANKARA, Turkey — U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday he was cutting off trade with Spain over defense spending — reviving a long-running feud between Washington and Madrid. "I didn't speak to Spain. Spain is a wasted cause. We don't want to do any trade business with Spain anymore," he told reporters ahead of a meeting with fellow NATO leaders in Ankara. "By the way, I'd like you to cut it off," he added, appearing to address U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
Trump's feud with Spain goes back to last year's NATO summit. Madrid was the only ally refusing to endorse NATO's new 2035 target of spending 5 percent of GDP on defense, deeply angering Washington. The U.S. president has repeatedly threatened to respond with tariffs. However, it's unclear how Trump's idea would work as Spain is a member of the EU, which is in charge of trade policy for all of its member countries. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has also criticized Trump's decision to go to war with Iran and refused to let the U.S. use military bases in Spain for the campaign, deepening the dispute between the two countries. "Spain is a terrible partner in NATO. They don't participate, they don't pay. I don't want anything to do with Spain. Cut off all trade with Spain, please, including visits," Trump said. "Let's see how hostile they remain when they call up, and they say 'please, please, we want to trade with you, sir.'"

I think the GOP leadership (I use the term loosely...) knows they're going to be massacred in November, so they're holding on to power as best they can. Part of that is to pass as much of their agenda as they can, and part is, more sinisterly, to try and rig the midterms with voter roll manipulation and the rest of their bag of dirty tricks.
If they fail at rigging the elections, they will sit back and let the Dems take the blame for the consequences of the cuts in the BBB that they purposefully put off taking effect until after the midterms, and then try to position themselves for taking the presidency once again after the Dems get blamed for the country not bouncing back with them in control of Congress. Plus, they will be so busy trying to reassemble the safeguards and rule of law, still having to fight the President all the way... probably not much will actually get done or prevent our downward spiral after all the damage trump has done.

Sometimes the low road as far as spouting off the truth and blaming those actually at fault is just
necessary instead of letting things lie so they can settle down.
America should have learned THAT lesson clearly after the Civil War when peace seeking leaders allowed the majority of The South to keep its dignity and to go largely unpunished for their treason.
Staying silent to allow the South to settle down and to come around was smart as far as healing on the surface. However, it set the stage for decades of seething hatred beneath the surface and more than a century of paying tribute to traitors who fought to keep enslaving and mistreating other human beings.
So, this time, anti-MAGA discussions are eessential to America's healing and to repairing the damage done by trump and his minions.
NO letting bygones go when MAGAt attitudes are so fiercely bound to 1/3 of America and the same group really doesn't KNOW just HOW EVIL he and his behavior actually is!

to get the truth out there. There are so many deceptive ads I’ve seen on TV that need to be exposed and countered, especially on the amendments coming up in August. I am heartened at least to see some of those ads being countered and exposed. That is the biggest thing… doing the fact checking and getting people to realize that they are being lied to. The politics of deception is what we are up against.
Or some other deal from which he has presidential power to influence and make money. He appears to use tariffs, threats and defamation to lower price of stock he wants, then inflates them when he tacos.
Like he did with his NY real estate for tax and bank fraud. Timing of these is imo no longer coincidence.
