Blanche formally rescinds plan for ‘weaponization’ fund, in deal to advance AG nomination
Sens. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Thom Tillis (R-North Carolina) had threatened to vote against Todd Blanche’s nomination if their concerns were not addressed.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche on Sunday formally rescinded key aspects of the Justice Department’s controversial legal settlement with President Donald Trump, a move toward breaking a dayslong impasse with Senate Republicans that had threatened to sink Blanche’s chances of being confirmed to the post.
In a social media post, Blanche highlighted two amendments to the deal the Justice Department struck in May to resolve Trump’s claims against the IRS over the leak of his tax returns to the media. The first formally eliminated the proposed nearly $1.8 billion fund for people who claim they were victims of politicized prosecutions, codifying in writing a pledge Blanche had previously made in sworn testimony.
The second change clarified a separate aspect of the deal that offered Trump, his sons and their affiliated business protections from past tax claims. The revised documents made clear that that protection would only apply retroactively and would not shield the Trumps from future audits.
Sens. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Thom Tillis (R-North Carolina), both of whom are leaving the Senate after this year, had demanded changes and threatened to vote against Blanche’s nomination if their concerns were not addressed. A “no” vote from either one of them would have been enough to stop the nomination at the committee stage.
“My team and I have met with committee members and Senators over the past several weeks and addressed any concerns or outstanding questions,” Blanche said late Sunday in his social media post. “We have enjoyed good faith discussions ... The Department always welcomes and appreciates productive engagement with all members of Congress.”
The announcement came after days of Trump insisting he wanted to see the payout fund established, vowing to back legislation to create it, and threatening to temporarily withdrawing Blanche’s nomination until Cornyn and Tillis had left the Senate to bypass their objections.
A spokesperson for Cornyn confirmed the agreement with Blanche. A representative for Tillis did not immediately return requests for comment.
Notably, Blanche’s signature was the only one on the documents revising the out-of-court agreement between Trump’s legal team and the Justice Department. The White House did not immediately respond to questions over the president’s involvement in the negotiations.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
Remember the Obamas? Let's have a return to style and a rejection of vile!
That doesn't mean they can't draw up another plan...
Could they not simply reintroduce it after the mae two are out of the Senate? Although I suppose it's doubtful whether they'll have control of the Senate next year..almost certainly not the House.
SAY ‘NO’ TO WAR! RESIST!
Trust a trumpster? Certainly NOT!

It simply gives cover for those squirrelly about voting in favor.
If it wasn't pure B.S. that's coming back later, then trump would have already yanked his nomination.
Blanche is a criminal too but with legal knowledge to write up agreements easily broken due to less than precise language, and the willingness to cross every line of the law in public.
