I’ve been busy doing some research. Granddaughter had a school assignment to talk about her ethnic background… where and when her ancestors came to America, etc. So I told her that we have ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary War on both my mom’s and my dad’s side, and that our roots were mostly from Western Europe… German, French, English. She thought that was “so cool” as she has seen ‘Hamilton’ so many times, she has practically memorized it. So I sent her a genealogy chart and all that, but I also asked my sister (who is in the DAR.. Daughters of the American Revolution) for her help since I know she has researched a lot of the family history. So she sent some pics of documents, but she said that in addition to us being related to Count Diether who built the Rheinfels castle on the Rhein River in the 13th century, we were also direct descendants of Martin Luther. That was a new one on me! I asked how she knew that, and she said it was info she found through the DAR. Also, on our mom’s side, she said they were French Huguenots who fled France under religious persecution. So… I take it that on my dad’s side was the Lutheran influence and on mom’s side it was Calvinist. No wonder I am such a rebel! 😂
