In December 2025, the number of multiple jobholders dropped sharply by 444,000 — one of the largest declines since the COVID lockdowns — signaling workers are consolidating gigs into stable full-time positions.
Part-time employment fell by 740,000 while full-time jobs surged by 890,000 in the same month, a strong positive shift for American workers.
The headline jobs number for December was 50,000 added, but broader employment rose by 232,000, with deeper data showing real strength in the labor market according to Heritage Foundation economist E.J. Antoni.
Real wages have climbed significantly under Trump — up $1,300 overall in less than a year, with even larger gains for construction workers ($1,800), factory workers (over $2,000), and many others exceeding $5,000 — after plummeting $3,000 during Biden’s term.
2025 saw 584,000 net jobs created, all from the private sector, while government employment declined due to federal layoffs — contrasting with Biden’s big-government expansion that pushed federal workforce numbers to nearly 3 million.
Federal employment is now down 277,000 from the prior year, reaching the lowest level since 2014 under Trump’s policies.
Biden’s administration was plagued by sky-high inflation (peaking at 9.1% in 2022, a 40-year high), driving the need for extra jobs, while Trump’s approach is delivering relief and better opportunities.
