Re: We went into yesterday with a reported 100% chance of afternoon rain...

I have not seen even one hummingbird this season. But we had several Mississippi Kites nesting in various trees in the area most of spring and all summer - so the hummingbirds have stayed away. In about a forty mile radius in this neck of the woods there were many many complaints about the Kites...they were very aggressive. But protected - so what are you going to do? I was happy to find out they mostly feed on flying insects or small birds...hence the absence of the hummingbirds, I believe. Yesterday I only heard one Kite calling - gawd they have an eerie screech - so I think migration south has finally begun. I read that they travel all the way to South America. I also read that in the spring they will return to the same area they nested in the previous year if it was a good spot. 🙄
