“I, Robot” series. If you are uncertain whether to use the label AI or use
the newly assigned SI, you might try reading some of the warning stories originating in the imaginative minds of the young science fiction writers
of the 1950s and the 1960s.
Some suggestions:
Isaac Asimov:
The Feeling of Power
Ray Bradbury:
There Will Come Soft Rains;
Fahrenheit 451*; The Pedestrian.
Arthur C Clark:
Into the Comet: 2001 A Space Odyssey
D.F. Jones:
Colossus - The Forbin Project
Gordon Dickson:
Computers Don’t Argue
J.L. Goddard:
Alphaville
Hamler and Coon:
Star Trek episode – A Taste of Armageddon
Robert Heinlien:
The Moon is a Harsh Mistress
Kurt Vonnegut:
Piano Player
The odd thing about these authors, and others, other than their
appearance, is their ability to imagine a future that doesn’t exist; it is vaguely reminiscent of that fellow who imagined a machine gun in an airplane soon after the Wright Brothers created a flyable one, and in
1909 military aggression was facilitated by the US Army military.
I find it difficult to not think the computer will facilitate the initiation
of warfare by ‘bad’ players as if it were a video game; demeaning
and devaluating human life, BNTW -
