today. Birds/squirrels fed. Mosquitoes killed. Flag is out. Got rid of my headache. If you ever drive through Hayden, Ark., obey the laws. The Sheriff will chase you, tow your car and throw you in jail. Cop car wheels are made of steel not an alloy like yours. That's why they can jump curbs without any damage to the wheels. That's knowledge.

60's with 90% humidity but MSN says it feels like 76. No it doesn't.

And smoke...air quality very poor. Yeah, kinda figured that with all the haze. Isn't bothering the hawk though - saw him take a bird mid-flight - GACK!

Saw the neighbors tiny dog out - imagine the hawk saw it too. I have been eyeing my gun and trying to decide how sound asleep the area is and if my aim would be true this morning. Probably not - so no. I remain law abiding. Talk about character building!!!

Pulling the trigger would be a bad personal decision. It would be illegal out here even if it was a BB or Pellet gun.

and I made the right decision.

But it is very hard to just helplessly sit and watch the carnage. The only other choice is to remain indoors and ignore it...I HATE to be shut inside this time of year.

It is ridiculous - there is a hunting season for doves and they hurt nothing.

If we are over populated with raptors (and we are) then should there not be a hunting season???

Mourning doves mate for life. In some areas their population is declining. They do NOT eat crops...they are ground seed feeders. They build shitty nests and aren't very bright when it comes to self-defense (hence the one taken out mid flight by the hawk...hawks appear to favor the dove meat also). But, they are harmless and do NOT hurt the environment.

I've been coyote hunting, I've ignored the deer hunting, I tolerate (root for the fish) fishing as long as I have a book. I draw the line at dove hunting and all who live in my neck of the woods know it. The dudes next door respect that. I'm completely serious COINS...NO ONE in my area is allowed to hunt the doves in my hood.

Guess you've never seen them hit a popcorn, sorghum field. Lotta seed on the ground but they will land on the stalks and eat the seed right off the cob.

They've tried for decades to classify robins as a game bird but no success as yet.

I have four hawks hunting right in front of me this morning, going from tree to tree - I was going to try to get video to share with you but ALL my plans for a morning of peace have been derailed. Both my children will be here shortly and we have to move some chit and take a short trip. Between the hawks and the list of chit to do - my morning has NO peace.

It is hard to get video anyway due to all the trees and I am NO photographer type person, whatever one calls it.

Not winding you up, just stating fact. I longer kill anything except armadillos, coyotes. Let a red wolf walk once. He paid me no attention when the light hit him. He was as big as a full grown collie.
