I was always ashamed of many things of my small little land.
Firstly we have developed a think accent and I always felt this made us seem backward. Growing up on 80s movies in the cinema the USA always seemed to have a better standard of living and just be more modern and with it.
During the 90s we caught up glass boxes everywhere however none over 14 floors in order not to be out of character with our national roots and believe it or not that is law here 14 floors is the limit.
Before I was an adult Irish people use to leave the county for a better standard of living.
Ireland is now per capita the country which attracts the most inward migration in Europe.
From the time I discovered this board to now I have done a full 180.
Ireland is my home and I have no desire to live anywhere else however I think that dream is lost.
I still look up to the United States but no longer the cites and the overgrown glass boxes.
I envy conservative Americans and their drive and motivation.
I want the real Ireland now but I did not miss it until it was gone.
Everything here is on a smaller scale but like Europe and the States the cities are a nightmare.
