Florida State Representative Angie Nixon(D) show why she needs to trade in her old set of drugs for a few sedatives. I wonder if this will affect her run for US Senate.
Democrats must no longer like redistricting after their Virginia court failure.
Today the U.S. Supreme Court found, based on a 6-3 vote, that Louisiana's 6th Congressional District, that extends snake like across most of the state (map below), violated Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
In the ruling issued April 29, 2026, the Court concluded that the state's congressional map, which included two majority-Black districts, relied too heavily on race when redrawing district boundaries.
The Court acknowledged that Louisiana's mapmakers did not need to create an additional majority-minority district to comply with Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. The ruling characterized the map as an unconstitutional gerrymander.
This decision significantly forbids what had been a liberal abuse of the Voting Rights Act, to manufacture left-wing districts by applying racially exclusion of white neighborhoods. The ruling requires stronger evidence of intentional racial discrimination to apply race-based remedies in district mapping.
The Supreme Court's decision has profound implications for redistricting in Louisiana and potentially sets a precedent affecting other states as Virginia Democrats struggle to restore their now lower court forbidden gerrymandering efforts. This action is viewed as part of a broader trend of limiting provisions in the Voting Rights Act.
