As of now, there has been no official annulment of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar(D)'s marriage to her brother, Ahmed Elmi. This marriage has generated ongoing controversy and allegations of immigration fraud.
Omar and Elmi were married in 2009 but separated in 2011, and their legal divorce wasn't finalized until 2017.
The marriage was a means for Elmi to game the system to gain legal immigration status in the U.S., especially as their family dynamics and her other concurrent and bigamistic marriage to Ahmed Hirsi also came into focus.
