When I started working as an accountant 45 years ago gasoline was $1.25 per gallon...

...and I made 20% of what I made when I live on today. Gasoline has not gone up nearly as much in 45 years as housing, cars, groceries, or many other things. It has definitely not kept pace with the stock market or gold prices.

Why such a pathetic howl about gas prices?

It can't be because they told us all the oil would be gone by now...

...and we'd all be living in a Progressive Utopia.

Too bad all their hot air couldn't be utilized as an energy source.

Before that they warned us about global cooling...

They were so brilliant that in 1978 or so my company had to build a coal-fired boiler...

...to make steam. They said there was not enough natural gas and we had to find other fuel to run our plant. Just 20 or so years later it was shut down by environmental regulations and we had to build a gas fired boiler.

Gas was $0.27 per gallon
I filled them up, checked the oil and washed the windows
They eventually let me fix flats, install studs on winter tires and then oil changes
After that work experience... I moved on to restaurants as a dishwasher and then into retail as a stock boy.
