...it got infested with algae and my wife dropped $120 worth of chlorine in it to clear it up.

The reflecting pool in DC between the Washington and Lincoln Memorials holds 6,500,000 gallons. My long math says it will take $26,000 worth of chlorine to clear it up. The bad news is that it will last only until we get another bad rain storm.

you forgot to calculate the IN THE SHADE component of your wifes demands

You are the only person I know with a tree shaded pool by design.

My wife won't cut a tree unless it starts falling on her....
