The price to put break shoes on a old truck

I have this old truck 26 years old but in very nice condition . One of the back breaks started making noise (break shoes ) I took it to a shop and ask how much to put new break shoes on I about fell in the floor the guy told me $750 .00 I can do it my self in two hour for less than $100 . It is not that I don’t have the money to pay to get this done but don’t you think they are screwing you over heck breaks are easy to put on .

In this instance, you protected yourself by acquiring the skills to repair drum and shoe type brakes. That was smart.

And you saved a bundle. This is a great example of capitalism (free markets) at work.

My skills lie elsewhere. I have a local shop that I trust with brakes...

...and much more. I save by not going to the big name shops.

I had a luxury car that was due for a 50,000 mile service that the dealer wanted $1100 for. I got it done by a certified mechanic at the little shop for $250. I must admit though, that I did not get the "free" loaner car like the dealer offered.

I have rebuilt engines even . I will say that these new automobiles you really can’t work on them as easy . You need special tools and something to read and diagnose the problem with your car.
New vehicles last longer get better fuel mileage than older cars . BUT !! Look how much they cost . A nice 2500 4x4 truck is 100000 $ now . Of course you can buy the WT truck cheaper but it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles ect .

I can do it in 20 minutes! As long as the rotors don't need to be turned.

Chances are, age of your truck, they will need to be turned or replaced!

You can save money by opening the door and dragging a foot on the ground to stop!

Buy a used boat anchor for a little bit of nothing... it could work.

...or you could do something I witnessed on my way to work one morning. I noticed that this big old car slid to a stop with only the right rear sliding at every light. Then I also noticed that just before it happened the backup lights came on. The guy was stopping by throwing it into Park at each light.

Those $750 brake replacements is another problem Democrats gave us.

There are very few American tradesmen anymore. Democrats have encouraged too many students to go after Gender Studies, French and Art History or similar worthless degrees saddling them with lifelong easy credit/student debt that Democrats pushed on us all leaving them with no real marketable skills.

The shortage of skilled labor has made the cost of repairs go sky high.

Congratulations on your do-it-yourself attitude. I've always done my brakes - even back in the days when a change would have cost in the $200 range. Hope you sprayed down your old rotors, pads, drums and shoes and washed your hands thoroughly afterward. The dust is still carcinogenic despite the reduction of asbestos.

Did you bleed your hydraulic lines too? Might be necessary but that's t least a 2 person job.

And BTW - it's spelled "brakes."
