They have been eager to switch off their Medium wave for several years now and it seems a bit strange that this has finally been announced with just three weeks notice.
Maybe there has been some agreement with Ofcom as I seem to remember that the national AM licence gives them automatic first refusal on carriage on the national D1 DAB multiplex ? Maybe that stipulation has been removed now or maybe they just have to make sure they pay enough to D1 to make sure they don't loose national carriage to a higher bidder on DAB now. Bayer are also closing a further six Medium wave transmitters that currently carry Greatest hits radio apparently.
Will Talk sport go next from AM or wait until BBC 5 Live goes first ?
