Back in the day I'm driving around Howick Place (looked it up on streetmap to confirm the name near Westminster Cathedral London) looking for somewhere to park so I could pop into McDonalds, the radio is on with Caroline now on 558, the signal is solid enough but with car ignition noise (remember that, happy days) and having found somewhere to stop with the engine still running I manually tune the car radio to 576 where there is a massive signal, punchy audio and not a hint of the dreaded ignition noise announcing "go tell a friend, tell em Laser's back". Great I thought, fun radio is back but sadly not for long as within a few weeks both masts on the Communicator fell down.
It's fine in a car, but when I'm in London it's not audible at all in the day, the noise floor is too high in the average building. I can hear Spanish stations at night, but Caroline's signal is not usable, this is from West London.
I drove from my home in North Yorkshire to Newcastle yesterday with 648 coming in well pretty much all of the way in the middle of the day. To be honest I thought I would need to connect up my phone, but such was the consistency of the signal that it was unnecessary. A good signal right up the AI and only suffering interference as I drove through Gateshead towards the city.
I wonder how that compares to the days from the Knock Deep?
