That was quite a year, started up RCSW, & in July, moved into a brand new home (Where I still live now, BTW) Furnished the flat from an auction. I had very little money in those days.
Tough times indeed.
Thanks Freddie, I always remember this day, now 43 years back as if it was yesterday. Had finished for the day with my job working as junior stocktaker, it was my first job after leaving school and I'd been doing it for about 10 months, whenever we were late I'd try and get the boss to put Caroline on, in those days if I'm not mistaken it would start at 5pm? Although he would quickly turn off if there was any religious stuff.
Also he objected if we left early and I'd tune to it and it would be in Dutch.
I was a very annoying anorak in those days (Not Changed I hear some say). The next day we were going to Mill Hill, don't be late, he said as I left the car.
In the evening I listened from 8pm after the God Squad and heard the first of those announcements, was a little confused and didn't quite know what was going on, but never took anything for granted after the 7/8 month absences in 78/79. Decided I had to go to bed about 10:30 as like any 16 year old had trouble getting up for a 7:30 meet, but had my bedside radio on, the last memory I have was Ocean Gypsy playing and after that cannot remember anything until either the Evening Standard or the Evening News, Midday edition came in with the headline Pop Pirates Sunk. My boss telling me, well at least we don't have to listen to that sh!t tonight . Needless to say I was gutted.
Anyone else have a story of that night?
freddie,
i put that on while doing some stuff around the house.
brings back memories of that night....
I have an old orban analogue notch filter which done a great job of getting rid of the het on the mi amigo signals...... I do have a sample recorded to try it. It was a bit fiddly setting up, esp with dirty controls..lol....
will try and find the sample
