Yes Albert Organised 2 trips shortly after she sunk - I went on the second with two divers, who Barry James (He was there too) managed to organise - but when they got back, they told us the fine sand, had already virtually filled the ship's interior - as soon as they touched it, they could not see a thing, it was like a thick fog.
"All a long time ago" - indeed Freddie but whilst us anoraks still have working grey matter we will never forget. Nice clippings Mike and I hadn't seen the one about dear old Albert before and didn't know he went out with Peter Chicago and others to see if anything could be salvaged from the wreck.
Seeing that mast still rising up out of the sea three years later when the Ross dropped anchor in the Knock Deep makes you realise how sturdy the construction was although I believe the top bit did come down shortly after it was first erected off the Dutch coast and before the final move back to the English coast.
Welding hoses, at a guess, Mike - I believe the other numbers were Main anchor gone, spare anchor down, the other one probably referred to the leaks.
All a long time ago !
