01:00 each day with presented “as live” programmes and not fall back to
automation. We believe that holding a broadcast licence is and should be
regarded as a privilege and not just used as an automated jukebox to sell
advertising space. This is in contrast to many other AM stations where
programming is all automated, voice tracked and networked with little truly
original , creative, time-relevant or local content. This, sadly, is also true of
many other community and commercial stations also on FM and DAB. There
are many online services which will provide listeners with narrow themed nonstop automated music selections – we see no reason why the limited resource
of the airwaves should be used for similar.

In the fullness of time, and finances permitting, we would like to explore with
OFCOM the feasibility of running our transmitter system at its full rated power of
27kw as well as testing additional technologies on the AM frequencies, such as
DRM and CQUAM.
Furthermore, we have signed a contract with a solar panel provider to install c.
25kw of solar panels on our transmission site. We expect these to be producing
power by March 2023. This will enable us to be more than 100% solar powered
from onsite generation at the requested higher power during summer weather.
We believe this will make us the only such self-powered transmission service in
the UK (and possibly Europe) and will go a long way to making our operation
carbon neutral and sustainable as well as exporting surplus generation back into
the grid.
On a slight tangent, having undertaken publicity and a fundraising campaign
amongst our listeners in 2022 to purchase the solar panels, we know from
feedback that many of those listeners have now started to investigate having
their own panels installed at their homes. Once we have the solar panels built
(in the springtime) we plan on extra publicity, and anticipate this will also further
increase awareness of solar power amongst our listeners. Having a power
increase to implement at the same time we believe will enhance the
effectiveness of that publicity.
