My drift was
1) Hypothetical. (Careful with those American sayings-you might start to sound like Mervyn Hagger) I understand he funding principles and was simply musing what I would do (as I am sure you would) if the funds were available to me.
2) Cynical. Many complain about the current standard of presentation with some justification. I’m saying that I would not particularly like to introduce what some term “lively” or “personality” presenters which normally mean what they remember in the 60’s. I like the style of for example Pat Edison who treats his listeners as adults. Of course some would consider Pat to be “dull and boring”.
Ultimately there is the off button which I, you and everyone else can use when someone is on that we don’t find pleasing to the ears.
Unfortunately, it happens more than I would like. For example I would not have been able to tell you Peeder’s catchphrase!😃
Don't get your drift Ian.
There is the American saying ' if it ain't broke don't mend it '. In the UK at least, the operation of Caroline as an all volunteer station with only essential overheads, funded by people who trust that their donations will be wisely spent is unique.
A ' cash injection ' would have to be a bloody big one and if it was seen that we were going commercial, our donations would cease and we would be at the mercy of whoever injected the cash.
There are no ' Royal Rulers ' on Caroline nor ' Your DJ Michael A ' nor ' Ed Stewpot Stewart '. You are going back 55 years. Roger Day will never change. He did one weekend with us as he was in the UK. Now he is happily back on Boom.
Our only nod to the past is ' Peeder Andoneee' who thinks he is still on Radio Luxembourg and try as I might I cannot wean off his catchphrase. ' Putting em on and pulling em off '. But people listen to him.
PM.
Steve, I don’t disagree with what you say. I was just questioning the approach.
I have to say that I don’t share the sensitivities of others. If there was a cash injection to the station and I had a say, then the big brush would be brought out with a very few surviving the cull.
The album format would continue but with a professional discipline. No ego filled djs referring to listeners as Twiglets or themselves as a Royal Ruler!
No Ian these are my views as a supporter and "fan" of the station, I would probably be in the group of I would listen to almost anything.....but that is not the view of non anoraks. I have no more right to tell anyone how to do things this is a free radio forum where we all can share views
