... Well, kind of...

I've seen a few articles and videos over the years about 'pirates' using US military satellites to relay messages. These satellites were deployed from the 60s onwards and, initially at least, they did not include any encryption or access control. So various people (apparently including some dubious 'organisations' involved in smuggling illicit substances) have used them to communicate over very large areas using channels around the 250MHz band.

Doubtless many people here will be familiar with this phenomenon but I thought I'd share this recent video which investigates the current activity on these birds...
