The agreement with the electricity industry ran until March 2020 and has been extended three times since due to slow progress in installing replacement smart meters for customers on those tariffs.
From 2020 the electricity companies have had to pay for the whole costs of the infrastructure. This meant the costs rose from £1 million annually to £1.5 million. When the agreement was extended yet again this March the costs rose to around £5 million. At a meeting this January they said that they should be able to replace all the relevant meters by next March.
It's also been announced today that the Danish longwave transmitter at Kalundborg, now only used four times a day, will be closed on 31 December this year. Report and photos of the site on this page.
