In December 1983 I wrote to the local MP, Toby Jessel, about Radio Sovereign and he replied copying a letter he sent to John Kenning on the 22nd.

"Thank-you for sending me so much detailed information following our meeting last Friday.

I saw Douglas Hurd MP, Minister of State at the Home Office yesterday.

As to the case due to come up this January I am afraid that, as we foresaw when we met, the outlook is not at all good. As a Home Office Minister Mr Hurd cannot intervene and he says the law must take its course. Naturally I made the point that unless you broadcast you cannot show what you can do ..."

A few days later, on 2-Jan-84, the station closed down.
