He had the luxury of a work shop - try working on one of those with a pub full of drunks on a Saturday night although it wouldn't be in the condition of that one unless so "a-hole" had poured his beer over it.
In my attic is a working TK14 and a 4 track 2 speed Ferguson Model 3226 also working with many Caroline tapes mostly with DJs edited out.
Kev
Those early Grundig R_R recorders, were great - I remember as a lad, being very envious of a lad of a similar age (his father was a rich surgeon) who had a Grundig - he played me a recording of the radio Luxemburg top 20 - this must have been around 1959 - living in Symonds Green, a village near Stevenage - now overrun by new homes.
His name was Julian Richardson.
My first lowly tape recorder, was a secondhand "Gramdeck" which converted a record player into a tape recorder - though not very well
I expect your TK20, needs some Capacitors & perhaps valves replaced, Dave.
Thanks Dave, that has put that to bed! I wish that the restorers were near here Oxford, I have an Emerson 888 transistor radio that I used to listen to the pirates on in the 60's that does not work, also a 1959 Grundig TK20 reel to reel tape recorder that has gone quiet, both I would like to get going again, it would have be someone local.
Voice overs/Narration by Karl Collins.
I have just got round to watching the the Retro Electro Workshop Ross Revenge episode recorded on my Virgin Media box and I was very pleased with what I saw Does anybody know the name of the chap doing the voice overs? To me it sounds like Ted Kravitz of SKY F1 fame but my family do not agree. I have looked the credits but no mention.
It's now available on demand here if you haven't got their app on your television, episode 2 Sinclair C5 You need to register.
I agree with Ian, the presenter started listening to Caroline in 1983, there's some shots of it's history including the raid at the start of the feature on Caroline.

Thought it was a good piece.
The guy seemed genuinely interested in Caroline and this helped to promote the station in a positive way.
I know he is an advertiser and may well have close links with the station.
Good to see Nigel say a few words.
