I've turned adblock plus off here but leave it running along with uBock Origin everywhere else.
As an example Adblock plus "saw" 6 ads on one newspaper site I visit and at the same time uBlock Origin "saw" 27.I've no idea if the 6 were also part of the 27 or in addition.

Best to only have one adblocker running at the same time, having 2 can reduce the effectiveness. I use uBlock Origin but Adblock Plus is also ok if you untick the "Allow acceptable ads" in the settings Previous Message

Try doing what I did Kevin. Remove your current Adblocker and add the 'uBlock original' extension instead. Worked for me. That was Dave's suggestion.
