Same interview with Dave Hawkins I quoted has a question about hearing Caroline in the background, says it was when they returned from Holland with a 50w transmitter on 1169 and shortly afterwards 1187:
"Good question, it's one that we were aware of but never got to the bottom of it...there was clearly some demodulation going on either in our studio system or in the early stages of the transmitter...it was something we were barely concerned with because I think it was towards the last days that it became noticeable, we had other priorities."

I remember hearing Caroline in the background on Big L, more so following the bigger TX on 259. Previous Message
I have often wondered why they used the frequencies they did. Whistling away at night, often with Caroline breaking in. And especially as, when they started, Caroline was still on 199.
Is there an obvious reason I've missed for 60 years?
Fair enough but why use 1155 and several others off channel, hence the whistle, when 1187 was available until Caroline took it.
