There never was much on the MW Radio In Scotland, when I visited there in the 1990s & 2005.
I guess zero now - Even Caroline is only on 2kw on 648, due to a Tx fault today, possibly caused by storms sweeping across east anglia ! - they are on the 350ft aerial though, which has directional lobes which could prove interesting... Previous Message
I'm spending a few days in the Highlands, and have been struck by the impact of AM's shutdown on the available radio services on the island of Mull.
A fast scan of my rental car radio today journeying from Tobermory to Fionnphort yielded the following results:
DAB - 0 stations, completely non-existent.
FM - Access briefly to BBC Radio Nan Gadheal and a little bit of Radio 4, but nothing available once you reach the outer fringes of Mull.
AM - BBC 5 Live on 909, very poor signal.
Radio North with an excellent signal out of County Donegal on 846 khz (and the station targeting audiences in the Highlands as part of their coverage area)
Kringvarp Foroya from the Faroes on 531 khz with a better signal than 5 Live.
That's it. Literally no other radio available to anyone in the region. Happy to see RTI Offshore back, so I cranked up some classic Laser 558 over the 5G where available.
Hats off to Radio North with a fun mix of music on 846. But the AM shutdown has impacted communities here in a very negative way.
