I was sad to read from Marc Jacobs that Kees Borrell died in a road accident.

Kees was a crew member on the Mi Amigo mainly as a cook, but did much more like mast climbing!

I was interested to read he worked in a restaurant in Playa de Aro where he befriended Mi Amigo dj Ton Schipper. This resulted in him doing recipes on Ton’s morning programme. He asked would it be possible to work on the ship and ended up at sea.

Kees was also involved in the fitting out of the Magdalena in Greece and was aboard on July 1st 1979 when Radio Mi Amigo 272 launched.

He was also involved in fitting out the Magda Maria for Radio Paradijs/Monique and was on board when the ship was illegally boarded by Dutch officials.

An unsung hero and great shipmate, loved by his colleagues.
