A special summer edition of the Hans Knot International Radio Report looks back at the turbulent history of the legendary radio ships Caroline and Mi Amigo.

Following their seizure in 1968, they seemed to be lost for good.

Whilst the Caroline’s fate was sealed at the scrapyard, the Mi Amigo, however, was set for an eventful resurrection.

This special edition paints a vivid picture of the autumn and winter of 1972 and the spring of 1973: the mysterious sale, test broadcasts on the North Sea and the fierce internal tensions over unpaid wages. A severe autumn storm snapped the transmission mast, but the crew persevered.

The climax of the drama was a full-blown mutiny on board, complete with iron bars and a occupied bridge.
