The fifth edition of the Hans Knot International Radio Report is over 50 pages long and includes numerous responses to the August special on Caroline in 1972–1973. There is an interesting contribution by Paul de Wit (Erik de Zwart) about his time at Caroline in 1979–1980. I’ll take you back to August 14, 1968, one year after the introduction of the Marine Offenses Act. Martin van der Ven shines the spotlight on 50 years of Nigel Harris (Stuart Russell).
There’s a very interesting piece about the American Eli Rosenbaum, who heard a jingle while tuning in to RNI in December 1971: “Don’t forget to switch off your radio….” After 55 years, he set out to find the jingle he’d never heard again—using ChatGPT. And he found the answer. Let yourself be surprised. Speaking of America, I’m bringing you a lengthy feature on Radio Free America in 1973; there’s also a review of a new book by Philip Hilton. Just a few highlights from the contents.
