I approached the coop just after 7:00 AM today. I knew I had a very sick hen. The other five members of the flock were gathered around looking at the cold and stiff carcass of one of their sisters. The birds all looked very concerned and sad. I petted them and consoled them.
Frazzle was a fanatical rat hunter, she had killed several. Perhaps she caught something from contact (or a bite) from a rat. I had her on Vet-RX and she seemed to be recovering from what appeared to be a respiratory problem. When the symptoms returned I put her back on Vet-RX, but this time she just continued to go downhill. She was so weak last night I placed her on the floor of the coop rather than the roost. I found her in the same place, only this morning she was dead.
