It was the GOP who was mostly responsible for passing the Civil Rights Bill, many Democrats filibustered the bill.

The GOP ended slavery and played a big role in passing the Civil Rights Bill.

Sounds like you got your American History from Howard Zinn's books. Even he admits some of his work is fiction.
