The success of Trump's reactionary populist movement has turned many of the coalitions of Dems and Repubs on its head. Four years ago President Biden won 93 percent of Black women voters. Harris' support is at 83 percent according to recent polling of the Times/Siena poll, and it is reported that some Black males, too, have been impressed with the Trump shtick. What's keeping the race close is suburban areas that went blue after Trump came into office.

Harris has given great effort in trying to keep the old coalition in tact by introducing some new programs for Black males. I'm impressed with Harris' "Opportunity for Black Men" plan, which aids them in starting businesses and building wealth.

Under the plan, one million loans would be given that would forgive up to $20, 000 for Black entrepreneurs and others to start a business. Also, the plan legalizes marijuana nationally and ensures that Black men can benefit from its business potential.

Some cynically look at Harris' plan as just another "too little too late" gimmick. I differ with that assessment. For us on the left, it speaks volumes of the difference between a Trump and Harris presidency. Harris keeps her ears open to voter's anger and is willing to adjust, while Trump's response is to jail anyone who disagrees. He has even promised as much.

We can work with Harris and move her left.
