Not hype to say he influenced most third-world rebels & liberationists, even those who'd describe themselves as "atheist". lol

Gustavo Gutierrez is one of those who saved the reputation of the Catholic church especially in Latin America and the Caribbean, given the church's propensity to side with the elite oppressors in the region, especially in a place like Haiti where I'm pretty sure his work influenced someone like Father Jean-Bertrand Aristide.
I suspect he also influenced someone like Pro. James Cone who came up with A Black Theology of Liberation etc.
