But sadly enough, there were more Black-owned businesses during Jim Crow days than today..
Integration gave us the freedom to give up on self-determination & self-sufficiency to enjoy sharing white spaces with the oppressors..
That's the kind of mindset the legacy of slavery left on Black folks..
Integration was a blessing in terms of allowing many of us to enjoy 1st class citizenry, but also a curse in making us become more dependent on white folks economically, than is healthy for any community. On that point, Dr Umar is correct.

btw, there are scattered Hispanic malls, Indian malls, East Asian malls etc throughout Houston, i'm not even sure there's a Black-owned mall here. Sad.
