An important component of authoritarianism is theatre. Here, below, an image of Trump signing an executive order titled "Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports," which prohibits transgender athletes from competing in girls' and women's sports. In the backdrop are an almost lily-white group of little girls cheering him on as he signs the order. Does this action really deserve all this fanfare considering that of the more than 500,000 athletes that play NCAA sports, fewer than 10 are openly transgender? And what about the negative backlash that these theatrics will create against transgenders? He has now scaped goat both immigrants and transgenders. Who's next on the list?
