I met Xhosa people who are descended from the khoisans in cape town last year. Skin tone is not the determinant of whether a person is considered a coloured person. In fact, many or most cape town coloureds are darker in complexion than the khoisan and the Xhosa. Just going on what i saw/ heard. Previous Message
Indeed iniquitous and irreligious, and you name it,.. its totally wrong. The Dutch settlers labeled anyone who is mixed as "colored" in South Africa including the Cape Malays who are Muslims and descendants of Indonesian slaves in Cape Town. Also the descendants of Malagasy slaves in the Cape were labeled as colored. With that being said even a Mulatto(Black father, white mother or vise versa) was/is classified as "colored" although a Mulatto doesn't share any historical facts with the Colored communities of South Africa. In fact a Mulatto is more of a mixed race than a colored.
The Dutch, Brits and German settlers of South Africa were wicked as hell. Previous Message
I've only watched 16 minutes of this so-far, TheOne. It's really wicked how the white settlers in South Africa mixed with the Khoisan (Khoi Khoi), labeled them as Colored and meanwhile commenced to control their lives.
Now, a new generation have emerged rejecting the "Colored" designation and calling themselves Rasta Khoisan. The colonizers are indeed wicked. Previous Message
Wow, despite the so called end of apartheid in 1994, just 3 years ago some sort of "Intifada" took place in Cape Town. This film focuses on the uncertainties and inhumane acts of police and state brutality faced by the predominantly "Rastafarian, KhoiSan" identifying community of Hangberg in Cape Town, South Africa.
