This is like "breaking news" to me, although the story dates back to 1802. LOL, this anecdote happened only 2 years before the independence of Haiti in 1804.

Anyway, Napoleon Bonaparte(the basturd) deported about a thousand Guadeloupeans and Haitians to Corsica(a French Island located right in the Mediterranean sea, near Italy) photo below. They were black and mixed-race West Indians who opposed Napoleon's reestablishment of slavery in the overseas colonies. But goshh he deported these West Indians to a mediterranean Island that has always wanted its independence from France to began with. The Native Corsicans have Italian origins and have been "Frenchified" by the French King Henry whom the Island was given to him by a Sell out Italian ruler. What a mess!! Even to this day the Corsicans are still demanding independence from France!

Anyhow, lets finish the story,...indeed most of these deportees died during the exhausting tasks assigned to them in Corsica. There were, however, escapes. The article below is worth reading.
