Thing is, Christmas has fallen victim to the demands of capitalism!
And sadly, the moment Hallmark Cards saw the profit potential of Kwanzaa, the celebration started losing its spiritual meaning!
I remember attending very private & tight knit Kwanzaa gatherings in Harlem & Brooklyn in the mid-90s, and how uplifting the experience was; then Kwanzaa critics, like Henry Louis Gates, started writing opinion pieces putting down the celebration. Ever since, part of the celebration started losing its appeal. Also, the growing commercialism of Kwanzaa became a turn off to many.
One positive development: in terms of ancient Black Hebrew roots, its no longer a taboo subject as social media - including YouTube, TikTok etc - continue to give voice to those exposing such suppressed bits of history. Let's see how long the power elites are gonna tolerate or allow such discussions. The truth is an offense to some.
