Yes Les, ppl are quick to forget the past of anyone for this matter when there is a genocide taking place(by the way, genocide is a specific type of "atrocity", but the two terms are not legally or conceptually identical. Atrocity also "encompasses" four major international crimes which are genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and ethnic cleansing. The word atrocity is indeed a broad term for systematic, routine violence against civilians). Also those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

And who still remembers the Native American internal tribal conflicts that caused a genocide which was driven by resource competition, political control, and cultural practices like mourning wars, long before and continuing after European contact??
