According to the most common story, Corporal Ruiz, born a slave (perhaps in Africa), served in the Regiment of the River Plate and died while defending the colors (white and light blue) of the revolutionary flag (later the Argentine flag) against traitors during a revolt at the fort of El Callao, Peru) on February 6, 1824. Rather than hoist the Spanish flag, Falucho chose to be shot by the traitors, crying out with his last breath "”Viva Buenos Aires!" (Long live Buenos Aires). LOL
Now in my opinion since he "shouted" long live Buenos Aires shortly before his execution, I think he was born in Argentina and NOT Africa. Let's not forget that Buenos aires from the historical census of 1770s showed that almost 40% of the people in Buenos Aires were Black or of mixed African descent.
LOL, now the story of Antonio Ruiz is another "extra" reason why I will never set foot in Argentina. I will also never set foot in Israel, Saudi Arabia and PARAGUAY. NEVER!!!
FYI like Argentina, Paraguay became a notable refuge for high-ranking Nazi war criminals fleeing Europe after World War II. Infamous figures such as Auschwitz doctor Josef Mengele and Riga ghetto commander Eduard Roschmann hid in the country under the protection of Alfredo Stroessner's military dictatorship.
