Great bit on the book about George Floyd's ancestors Les..[frontpage]
So here's the question: Under Jim Crow and more dire forms of white oppression, AAs were able to attain certain levels of community wealth & self-determination.. Yet right now, with so many Black $millionaires, why don't we have similar ownership in land, real estate and Black-owned businesses? What went wrong? Just curious.
What I’m seeing, GM, is that more life options often default to a wider playing field in investment options. Pro athletes, for example, wind-up investing in relatively safe chainstore options and such. Back in the day, the people who did well invested in the local community, which made for easily recognizable examples of indigenous success.
My family owns residual land from our former enslaved ancestor, nowadays, but I was just talking with one of the family members who may sink his/her money into a Chicago-area business, rather than into the Mississippi landscape.
