Thanks, GM. The young man was on target. Those modern settler people in Egypt use the Greco-Roman Faiyum (Fayum) paintings, of the 1st and 2nd century, and simply overlook the prior founders of the Old, Middle, and New Kingdoms.
Menes, the founder, was Bontu. The Nile flows down from the highlands of the Great Lakes region of Central Africa.
